Novato woman identified in apparent Highway 101 suicide

A Novato woman leaped to her death from the Highway 101 overpass at Atherton Avenue in Novato Monday morning, according to California Highway Patrol.

The apparent suicide prompted authorities to close all northbound lanes of the highway, causing an extended backup during peak commute hours.

Sally Kinn, 55, apparently jumped from the overpass onto the northbound lanes at approximately 7:15 a.m. She was struck by a vehicle.

The Marin County Sheriff's Office released Kinn's name after 3 p.m. Monday.

"She drove her car onto the Atherton overpass, stopped, got out and walked over to the side and went over the railing onto the roadway below," said CHP Officer Andrew Barclay.
