Thief arrested for stealing power from a 'higher source'

Police arrested a 52-year-old Petaluma resident for allegedly stealing electricity from the Petaluma Valley Baptist Church.

The arrest came after neighbors reported seeing an extension cord running over the fence from the home next to the church.

According to Petaluma Police Lt. Tim Lyons, officers arrived at Randy Pippen's residence in the 1700 block of Brompton Street and found Pippen's home to be plugged into the church's electrical supply with an extension cord.

Lyons said PG&E had shut off power to the home months ago for failure to pay the utility bill.

Pippen was cited on suspicion of felony theft of utilities and made to vacate the residence.
