St. Bernard's stops St. Vincent

The St. Vincent High School baseball team slipped in its first game in the Fort Bragg Tournament, losing to St. Bernard's of Eureka, 5-1.

St. Vincent managed just one hit off St. Bernard's pitcher Matt Kirk, who pitched a seven-inning complete game, striking out eight. St. Vincent's only hit was a sixth-inning single over the second baseman's head by Alex Neve in the sixth inning to drive home the only Mustang run.

Neve pitched four good innings for St. Vincent, and left trailing just 1-0. St. Bernard tacked on a run in the fifth and broke the game open with three runs in the sixth.

St. Vincent was scheduled to come back later Friday against the loser of the Fort Bragg-McKinleyville game.
