Sophomore and captain lead Trojan runners

Sophomore Madison Parratt and team captain Casey Kramer paced the young Petaluma High School cross country team in its first Sonoma County League meet of the season at Foothill Regional Park in Windsor last week.

Parratt clocked a time of 22.38 on the 3.1-mile course in Football Regional Park to place second overall in the three-team girls varsity race while Kramer, a senior, finished third in the boys varsity race in a time of 19:17. That race was won in a near course record time of 17:45 by Piner High's Efren Reyes, who finished eighth in the state Division IV cross country meet last year.

The most dominant team performance of the day was turned in by the Trojans' boys junior varsity team. Led by junior Lucas DeJong's winning time of 20:05, Petaluma runners placed 1-2-3-5 in the JV race. DeJong was followed across the finish line by classmate Jad Shaheen and sophomores Trygve James and Dakota Tomas.

In the girls JV race, freshman Whitney Boyd topped the Trojans with a ninth-place finish.

In the girls varsity race, Jessica O'Hanlon, a junior, was the second PHS finisher. She placed sixth in a time of 23.56. She was followed by teammates — all sophomores — Alison Roper (25.50), Shyla Barry (26:00), Nora Lindsay (26:45) and Alexis Kramer (28:50) who finished 12th, 13th, 14th and 19th, respectively.

Trojans' runners were similarly bunched in the boys varsity race. Following Kramer across the finish line were sophomores Brock Albee (20:18), Dean Douglas (20:39), Edden Yashar (20:42), junior Chris Odetto (20:50), senior Tillman Schmid (20:57) and sophomore Ty Pearson (21:01). They placed 12th, 13th, 14th, 17th, 18th and 19th, respectively.

After hosting their only SCL home meet of the season against Healdsburg at Helen Putnam Park on Wednesday, the Trojans travel to compete against El Molino on Oct. 21.
