Maddie Thomas added another plum to Petaluma High School's amazing girls tennis season, winning the Sonoma County League singles championship for the second consecutive season. Her win followed a league-perfect season for the Lady Trojans, who won 12 straight SCL matches.
Thomas capped off her singles title defense with a dominating 6-1, 6-0 win over Analy's Jade Wight in the SCL tournament finals. Along the way to her title, Thomas defeated C. Moitano of Sonoma Valley, 6-0, 6-4, and, in the semifinals, Vicky Nguygen of Piner, 6-1, 6-3.
Thomas led an impressive effort by the Lady Trojans in the tournament. Thomas' teammate. Nicoline Pedersen, won two early rounds before losing to Wight in a tough match, 6-7, 8-4, 6-2. Petaluma's doubles team of Sophia Murphy and Hannah Sloth reached the doubles championship match where they lost to Hillary Brennan and Kate Stewart of Analy, 6-3, 6-4, after beating Sonoma Valley's Michelle Stovall and Sydney Moore.
Petaluma's No. 2 doubles team of Morgan Intoschi and Emma Morgan reached the semifinals before losing to Stewart and Brennan.
