Briceno captures President's Cup

The Briceno Soccer Spartans under-13 boys team swept to the championship in the Northern California State President's Cup Tournament, qualifying for the Far West Regionals in Idaho.

The Spartans won six straight games to win the Northern California title.

In their first game, they defeated the Los Gatos Lightning, 2-0, with Jose Angel Colli and Adrian Pleitez putting in the goals.

Colli connected for the only goal of the match in a 1-0 win over the Foothill Jaguars.

Colli did it again against the Placer Blues Thunder, driving home a header for the game's only goal.

Nicolas Castenada connected for a golden goal in overtime to give Briceno a 1-0 win over the Foothill Jaguars in the semifinal game.

The Spartans edged the Clovis Crossfire, 2-1, in the championship match,

Colli and Henry Velazquez scored the goals, giving the Spartan defense more than enough for the title.

The underdog Spartans allowed just one goal in the entire tournament due to intense defense from Robin Barrios, Alexis Aviles, German Gonzalez, Breiner Rodas and goalie Brandon Gonzalez.

The team includes Steven Barrios, Brandon Gonzalez, Emilio Florez, Jack Alvarez, Willie Patino, Robin Barrios, Marco Aguilar, Velazquez, Nicolas Castenada, Aviles, German Gonzalez and Gustavo Colli, Jose Angel Colli, Adrian Pleitez, Andres Gramajo, Jordan Mazariegos and Breiner Rodas.
