Grass fire scorches four acres in Petaluma

A southwest Petaluma fire Wednesday burned four acres of grass and brush before firefighters stopped it.

Initial reports indicated the Spring Ridge Lane fire was about 100 yards from a home and residents were evacuated.

The flames didn't reach the house, officials said.

Spring Ridge Lane is a a tiny lane off of rural Spring Hill Road, which winds out of western Petaluma from Bodega Avenue.

Cal Fire, Wilmar, U.S. Coast Guard and Rancho Adobe firefighters responded to the 9:15 a.m. fire. The last engines left the scene at 12:30 p.m.

A state forestry helicopter also responded.
