An early morning fire destroyed a residence at Sandalwood Estates Mobile Home Park.

A car appeared to be totaled by the flames as well.

Firefighters were alerted to the blaze at 5:10 a.m., and Petaluma units rushed to the scene, aided by Rancho Adobe and Cal-Fire units.

The man living in the trailer was at home and asleep at the time of the fire but was woken by his fire alarm, officials said. The man's son had installed a new smoke detector just a week before.

The trailer and its contents were completely destroyed, officials said.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation but appears to be accidental.
