Changes at McKinley, McDowell elementary schools

"The principals of the schools brought the idea to staff members, who then talked about it. Then, a parent meeting was held at McDowell two weeks ago, with more than 300 parents attending," said Steve Bolman, the district's deputy superintendent of business and administration.

"With this arrangement, we will have fewer combination classes," said Maureen Rudder, principal of McDowell. "But the main reason for the change is that the upper grades will have very small class sizes."

No other shifting of students is planned, Bolman said, adding that he doesn't know how PCS would be impacted by the closure of an Old Adobe school because it isn't clear which students would be dispersed.
