Car hits westside fire hydrant, causing water geyser

A car smashed into a water hydrant just outside of Petaluma Sunday morning, sheering off the hydrant and overturning the car, according to initial reports.

The broken hydrant spewed a huge geyser of water about 30 feet into the air until crews could close it off, reported Petaluma fire.

The woman driver, who was alone in the compact sedan, was taken by ambulance to Santa Rosa Memorial Hospital.

The crash was on Bodega Avenue near Bantam Way and was reported at 9:09 a.m.

The site is on Petaluma's western city boundary.
