DUI driver causes crash with two young children in the car

Police arrested a 36-year-old Petaluma woman on suspicion of DUI after she caused a collision with her 1-year-old daughter and 7-year-old son in the car late Thursday afternoon.

After officers received a report of a traffic collision on South McDowell Boulevard at Maria Drive they arrived on scene to find that Araceli A, Gomez, of Petaluma, had failed to stop for traffic at the signal and crashed into another vehicle. After conducting a further investigation, officers discovered Gomez was intoxicated and arrested her.

Gomez's two children were found in her vehicle, uninjured, and were released into he custody of a grandparent.

Gomez was arrested and booked into county jail on suspicion of DUI and child endangerment.
