Lagunitas Brewing Co., the Petaluma-based craft beer producer known for its India Pale Ale, is planning to open a second brewery in Chicago.

The company announced the news on its Twitter feed and Facebook page.

"We're gonna make a little bit o' NorCal right there in the City of Chicago. You 6,380 follower folk are the first to hear it! Cheers all!" the company tweeted.

Lagunitas produced more than 100,000 barrels of beer last year, and is already expanding its Petaluma operation to a capacity of 600,000 barrels per year.

The company sells beer in 32 states, it said last month. It was ranked as the 26th largest craft brewer in America in 2009.

Sierra Nevada, based in Chico, was the second largest craft brewer with annual production of 760,000 barrels in 2010.
