Assaulted K-9 helps nab parolee at large

Petaluma police responded to a residence on the 200 block of Stokes Court after a state parole agent reported that David Mehr, a parolee at large, was believed to be hiding in the attic.

At 9:30 a.m. on Wednesday morning, several officers arrived at the home of Kelly Eckels, who refused to cooperate once they were on scene. The K-9 unit was called out to assist with the search, including Kilo, the same dog assaulted in another arrest over the weekend.

Police said that after they searched the residence, they determined that Mehr was most likely in the attic and gave him several commands to come out. He did not respond until they gave the K-9 announcement, at which point Mehr surrendered.

Mehr was transported to the main jail for booking, along with Eckels who was arrested for harboring a fugitive.
