Calling all home beer brewers

Think your home brew is top notch?|

Think your home brew is top notch? Here’s your chance to put those suds to the test as the Sonoma County Home Brewer’s Competition searches for best homemade brew.

The Sonoma County Home Brewers Competition provides the opportunity for amateur brewers to bring their best flavor and aroma to the table, along with the chance to take home the bragging rights of having their winning recipe produced.

The festival will take place from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. on May 23 at the Petaluma Veterans Memorial Building, 1094 Petaluma Blvd. South.

The competition is open to any amateur home brewer who is of legal drinking age and can provide samples for judging on that date. Home brewers entries must be cereal grain based - no wild, sour, or barrel aged beers. The homebrew must not be brewed at a place that brews beverages commercially, including brewpubs and other brew-on -premise establishments.

Attendees of this inaugural event will be asked to vote for their favorite brews. The 10 most popular brews will then be submitted to a panel of local industry judges who will crown a winner. The winning candidate will then receive the opportunity to brew their winning recipe at 101 North Brewing Company with brew master Joel Johnson, and have it distributed throughout Sonoma County.

The deadline for entry is April 13. The cost for entry is $25. Tickets to the May 23 event are $25 per person, and includes a commemorative glass and 20 tasting tickets. Beer games, home brewing vendors, music by the Dixie Giants and local food trucks will all be a part of the event. Tickets may be purchased online at brownpapertickets.com or in person by going to the Petaluma Visitors Center at 210 Lakeville St.
