The battle of the home brews

Sonoma County Home Brewers Competition is set for May 23.|

Interested in sampling some homemade brews? The Sonoma County Home Brewer’s Competition will be held from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. May 23 at the Petaluma Veterans Memorial Building, 1094 Petaluma Blvd. South.

Attendees of this inaugural event will get to taste the sudsy recipes of 69 amateur brewers from all over Sonoma County and beyond and vote for their favorite. The 10 most popular brews will then be submitted to a panel of local industry judges who will crown a winner. The winning candidate will then receive the opportunity to brew their winning recipe at 101 North Brewing Company with brew master Joel Johnson, and have it distributed throughout Sonoma County.

Mountain Mikes will be providing complimentary pizza bites throughout the day. There will be games, including a corn hole championship, life-sized Jenga, vintage arcade games from Past Perfect, pinball machines, The Mad Hatters Wonderland Croquet match by Heritage Salvage and beard and wax demonstrations by The Bearded Gentlemen Company with guest barber Sara Sass of Boulevard Barbers.

Beer Belly Brewing Supplies will be doing demonstrations on home brewing techniques, BrightCurrent will demonstrate home brewing solar set-ups and Wild Garden Farm will be selling hops and plants for the home brewers garden. There will be a chance to win a VIP Brewery Tour by North Bay Brew Tours.

A variety of food options will be available from local food trucks, including The Fabulous Frickle Bros., Thistle Meats, Rocky & Rosie Chicken and Three Twins Ice Cream.

Live music will be provided by the Dixie Giants.
