Your Petaluma weekend

Music, theater, movies and books|

THURSDAY

Lee Gallagher and the Hallelujah

Musician Lee Gallagher, having catapulted out of nowhere to capture the rowdy, raucous heart of the Bay Area music community, drives his band, The Hallelujah, with the furious fervor of a tent revival preacher, and the relentless musical thrills of a sixties rock festival. If you doubt you can still be moved by sheer stage presence and guitar-and-organ mastery, prepare to be saved. Lagunitas Brewing Company, 1280 N. McDowell Blvd. 4:20 p.m. No cover. Lagunitas.com.

FRIDAY

Fascinating Rhythm

Transcendence Theater Company’s annual “Broadway Under the Stars” series continues at Jack London State Historic Park, with “Fascinating Rhythm,” an extremely well-produced song-and-dance revue featuring a cast of Broadway and L.A. pros performing songs from an array of classic and obscure shows, with frequent diversions into pop and rock songs. Alternately moving, funny, jaw-dropping and inspiring, “Fascinating Rhythm” continues the company’s six-year streak of making lightning strike in the same place. Jack London State Historic Park. 2400 London Ranch Road, Glen Ellen. Show starts 7:30pm. Tickets $42–$129. Broadwayjacklondon.com.

Linnea Hartsuyker discusses “The Half-Drowned King”

Copperfield’s Books and writer-publisher Ross Lockhart present author Linnea Hartsuyker as part of the monthly series Brave New Worlds, featuring live conversations with up-and-coming science-fiction, fantasy and horror writers. SATURDAY

American Wrestler

Petaluma-raised actor-producer Ali Afshar’s Petaluma-set drama - based on true events from his own life in the early 1980s - returns to the big screen for two more showings, Aug. 19-20, at 7 p.m. Based on Afshar’s experiences as a high school wrestler, the critically-acclaimed film is powerful, gripping and well-worth a second look. Boulevard Cinemas, 200 C St. Cinemawest.com.

Rock and Roll Rhythm Review

“With an attitude.” That, according to the members of the Rock and Roll Rhythm Review, is how the 50s-era tribute band plays classics of rock, blues and rockabilly. 3 p.m. at Brewsters Beer Garden, 229 Water St. No cover. Brewstersbeergarden.com.

Streetbreaker and The Down House

Two high-voltage hard-rocking bands unite for an evening of stripped-down punk, Phoenix Theater-style. 201 E. Washington. $8. 8 p.m. Phoenixtheater.com.

SUNDAY

T Luke and the Tight Suits

Fans of Cajun Zydeco know that T Luke and the Tight Suits bring a Mardi Gras Parade-level party with them every time they take the stage. Good thing Brewsters Brew Garden is outdoors, because otherwise, these folks would blow the roof off. 229 Water St. 3 p.m. No cover.
