Petaluma’s Come Home to Cooking closing doors

City regulations would no longer allow the former Della Fattoria chef to operate a school in her home.|

Kay Baumhefner, who served as the opening executive chef at Della Fattoria Cafe in downtown Petaluma, is quietly closing the doors on her Come Home to Cooking School in Petaluma.

The school, which opened in her remodeled home kitchen eight years ago, provided an intimate setting for cooking students of all ages and levels to benefit from Baumhefner’s worldly palate and meticulous knowledge of cooking techniques.

In her blog, the cooking instructor said that she was in the process of starting work on ideas for the 2016 year and updating her permits when she learned that city regulations would no longer allow her to operate the school in her home.

“Apparently times change and so must we,” she wrote. “I will certainly continue to publish blog posts here and come home to cooking myself.”
