Petaluma resident and new business owner Lindsay Lugo is fighting for her life. A wife and mother of two small boys, Lugo is battling pulmonary hypertension, a rare and incurable lung disease in which high blood pressure in the arteries of the lungs can lead to heart failure.

Lugo hopes to extend her life and her time with her family through a double lung transplant to be performed at University of California, San Francisco Hospital. She is currently next on the waiting list for her blood type, but the procedure is expensive and the family is reaching out to the community for help.

Lugo and her husband, Angelo, who own the Home of the Chicken shop on Liberty Street, are organizing the Petaluma Hot Chicken Skate Competition. The event starts at 1 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 24 at the Petaluma Skate Park, East Washington Street at Fairgrounds Drive. The family friendly event is for skateboarders and spectators of all ages. There is a $10 entry fee to compete and prizes for first, second and third place.

Pro skaters Ron Allen, Henry Sanchez, Steve Roter, Chico Brenes and others will be present to show support and sign autographs. For competitors and spectators alike, there will be a $5 hot dog lunch available for purchase that will include a natural hot dog with all the fixings: chips, a Vitamin Water and cookies for desert.

There will also be a community raffle for gift certificates and prizes donated by local businesses. Raffle tickets are available for purchase in advance at Home of the Chicken (131 Liberty St.), Flower Child Consignment (123 Kentucky St.) and also at the event. Raffle tickets are $2 each or $10 for 6. Event sponsors include: City of Petaluma Parks & Recreation, Petaluma Market, Coca-Cola Co., Bill & Jay’s Automotive, Mike’s Barber Shop, Sax’s Joint, Lions & Tigers & Hair, Flower Child Consignment, Soft Shell Beauty Spa, Bovine Bakery, Sauced Petaluma, The Velvet Ice Collection

Anyone interested may donate items for the event, raffle, purchase raffle tickets or make a donation to Lugo’s Go Fund Me page: gofundme.com/lindsaylugo.
