Halloween is right around the corner, and there are plenty of options for those looking to scare up some festive fun in Petaluma. From canine costume contests to corn mazes to trick or treat trails, here’s a guide to a hauntingly good time this weekend.

Bill Soberanes Halloween Festival

The Petaluma Plaza North shopping center will host the Bill Soberanes Halloween Festival from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Oct. 29 at the center, located at the corner of North McDowell Boulevard and East Washington Street. There will be balloons, trick-or-treating with the merchants and activities for the kids. Admission is free. Call 762-2234 or visit theplazanorth.com.

Dia de Los Muertos Procession

Giant puppets make their way through Petaluma during the annual Dia de Los Muertos event, which will be held from 6-10 p.m. The processions starts at the Water Street Bistro and ending at the Petaluma Historical Library and Museum. The event will include Aztec dancers, live music, food and art vendors, altars and more. More information at petalumamuseum.com.

Pups for PEP

Show off Fido’s flair at the Pups for PEP fundraiser, which will feature a doggie costume contest with categories for best costume and best tricks. The event, to be held from 5-8 p.m. Oct. 29 at the Cavanaugh Recreation Center at 426 8th St., will also feature food, music as well as auction featuring three-dimensional dog art made local creators. The Sonoma County Animal Services will also be on hand with a variety of adoptable pooches. Admission is $20 and includes dinner provided by Mi Pueblo. The costume contest entry fee is $5. Proceeds benefit PEP Housing, a nonprofit that provides affordable housing to seniors. Fall carnival

The Petaluma Mother’s Club will host a fall carnival with music, food, a costume parade, face painting, a petting zoo, a photo booth and a variety of other activities from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Oct. 29 at Kelinworh Junior High. Admission to the event at 800 Resiling Road is free. Games, activities and admittance to the bouce house cost $1-$3, or $10 for unlimited activities.

Spooktacular Trick-or-Treating

The Petaluma Village Premium Outlets will host its 21st Annual Spooktacular Trick-or-Treating event from 1-3 p.m. Oct. 31 at 2200 Petaluma Blvd. North mall. Trick or Treat trail

More than 50 merchants will open their doors from 3-5 p.m. Oct. 31 for the annual Trick or Treat Trail through downtown, with goodies for costumed kids under the age of 12 at the family friendly event. ‘Trunk and Treat’

The Petaluma Valley Baptist church will host a “Trunk and Treat” event at 6 p.m. Oct. 31, where ghosts and ghouls can trick or treat from decorated car trunks or pick-up beds in the 580 Sonoma Mountain Parkway church’s parking lot. For more details, visit petalumabaptist.com.

NorCal Fear

The Sonoma-Marin Fairgrounds is hosting a haunted house that claims to be the “scariest” in the North Bay. Patients at the Bedlam Asylum have revolted, and attendees are tasked with trying to stay alive while making it though the fright-filled compound. The attraction is open from 7-10 p.m. Oct. 27, 30, and 31, and from 7-11 p.m. Oct. 28 and 29. Admission is $15, and tickets can be purchased at norcalfar.com.

Petaluma Pumpkin Patch and Amazing Corn Maze

The 450 Stony Point Road patch is open from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Sunday through Thursday, and from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. Friday and Saturday. Entry to the corn maze closes a half hour before the patch. McClelland’s Dairy Pumpkin Patch
