THE BUZZ: Party with the Masons

In this week’s THE BUZZ, Birthdays are big|

Party with the Masons: Celebrating three centuries of freemasonry, the 162-year-old Petaluma-Hamilton Masonic Lodge is hosting an open house to mark the 300th anniversary of the historic fraternity, originally founded way, way back in 1717. The Petaluma Lodge, at 9 Western Ave., was founded in 1855, and the building where the members now meet was constructed in 1881. Join the members on Thursday, March 30, from 6:30-9 p.m., for refreshments, a tour of the building, and a chance to learn just what it is that goes on inside a modern-day Masonic Lodge.

Doris Leckie to turn 100: The Masons aren’t the only ones celebrating a big birthday. On March 26, Petaluma’s Doris Leckie will officially reach the Century mark. An avid bridge player, Leckie’s milestone will be observed on March 30, at 11:30 a.m., as the Petaluma Bridge Club honors her with a pre-bridge birthday cake celebration.

Lost and Found: A shopper at a Petaluma food store found a significant amount of money recently, and would like help in identifying the owner. The cash was found on the morning of March 19. The owner should be able to identify the store and the exact amount lost. If you have any information about the lost money, please email the finder at marriottpw@aol.com. And don’t forget to thank them.

All’s Fair: Tower of Power’s “urban soul” sound will return to Petaluma for a third consecutive year, the Sonoma-Marin Fair has announced. The Oakland-based band will kick off the annual fair on Wednesday, June 21, at 8 p.m. This year’s musical lineup will include Country chanteuse Jana Kramer (Thursday, June 22, 8 p.m.), ’80s-era arena-rockers Loverboy (Friday, June 23, 8 p.m.), and “Life’s a Dance” country star John Michael Montgomery (Saturday, June 24, 8 p.m.). The Fair’s big finale, the Fiesta Latina (Sunday, June 25, 3–7 p.m.), will feature Banda Toro and Los Angeles Negros.

Leggo my Art Show: Barber’s Cellars Tasting Room (112 Washington St.) will host one of two local “pop-up” art shows this Tuesday, March 28, from 6-9 p.m. The one-night-only event will feature works by local artists Marla Pedersen and Justin Ringlein, who will each create a piece of art, live, during the evening. Meanwhile, in the BackHouse Gallery at Heebe Jeebe (46 Kentucky St.) artist Dalila Acuna is presenting her own pop-up show, “Weird Science,” a display of embroidered pillows representing some of the offbeat movies Acuna recalls watching with her siblings on her family’s regular Friday night movie dates. The show runs through March 27.
