SATURDAY

Habitat &?TheNeuwPolitic

Two wild new art shows open in downtown Petaluma. Never predictable, Alchemia Gallery presents “Habitat,” with an opening reception from 4-7 p.m. (111 Kentucky St.). Described as an “immersive installation,” the vivid display is overseen by artist Emile Rosewater, who transforms the gallery into a jungle of imaginary creatures. And the Petaluma Arts Center (230 Lakeville St.) presents the juried group show “theNeuwPolitic,” in which California artists explore the current political divides in America. Opening reception and awards presentation from 5-7 p.m.

SUNDAY

4 Minus 1 Trio

Masters of what they call “sort of jazz,” this inventive threesome with the basic-math name are pianist Darin Wilson, bassist Edo Castro, and percussionist Michael Freitas. Count them yourself at The Big Easy, 128 American Alley, 6:30 p.m.
