LOOKING BACK: Remembering warm weather

Petaluma 1987 heatwave inspired locals to chill out|

Thirty Years Ago?“Edward and Virginia Trefitz took it easy in front of their Sutter Street home and enjoyed the balmy weather. The high reached 87 degrees Tuesday, the warmest day in Petaluma since Oct. 7 of last year. The forecast is for continued sunny and warm weather, with highs in the upper 70s and 80s, but cooler temperatures by Thursday.”

Petaluma Argus-Courier, Wednesday, April 22, 1987.

A flip through the pages of paper’s past is often a reminder of how much things have changed, or not, as the case may be. Weather, on the other hand, is always predictably unpredictable.

Thirty years ago, the sun-seeking Trefitz’s weathered a spring heatwave by taking a little front yard vacation - and hopefully remembered to hydrate. Speaking of hydration, prognosticators predict it will be cloudy this week, his temperature highs in mid-60s and 70’s. And if things turn wet, well, we can take a tip from the tricky Trefitz’s - nothing’s more adventurous than camping in your yard, even in the pouring rain.
