Library Book Sale turns up the volumes
The Petaluma Regional Library’s annual two-weekend summertime Book Sale begins with a focus on children’s books (August 11, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., and August 12, 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. The General Book Sale commences Wednesday, August 16 (4 p.m. to 8 p.m.), Thursday and Friday, August 17-18, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. It all concludes with Saturday’s “big deal” day.
Make-a-Wish benefit transforms miles into smiles
A fundraiser for the Make-a-Wish Foundation, its annual Walk for Wishes event takes place Saturday, August 12 at Shollenberger Park. Registration begins at 8 a.m., the walk begins at 9 a.m. This free event is a 5k walk around the Shollenberger “pond,” with additional kids’ activities, raffles, etc. Donation support the granting of wishes to kids and families dealing with illness.
Local thinkers go head to head in Idea Lounge
Metalworker/sculptor Matt Devine and corporate art consultant Susan Larson will face off, cordially, for the next Idea Lounge on Thursday, August 17, at Lagunitas Brewing Company, 1280 N. McDowell. Doors open 6:30 p.m., thoughts fly at 7 p.m. $15-$18. Reserve tickets at Petalumaartscenter.org.
Theater company brings good taste to downtown Petaluma
Taste of Petaluma, an annual food-drink-and-music celebration in downtown Petaluma, is a benefit for Cinnabar Theater, and takes place Saturday, August 19, from noon to 3 p.m. Purchasing a “taster bracelet” allows you to sample the culinarily dramatic offerings of many fine restaurants, food makers, breweries and wineries. Taster Bracelets can be purchased in Putnam Plaza, and a trolley will make loops through the downtown area. $40 for ten samples of your choice.
Daily Acts party adds Soil-to-Supper fun to Farm-to-Table fundraiser
Petaluma’s Daily Acts non-profit will be filling Hermann’s Sons Hall with locally grown and cooked goodness, with its Soil-to-Supper benefit, on Saturday, August 19, from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. at Hermann’s Sons Hall, 860 Western Ave. Plenty of food from a variety of purveyors will be available, with music by the Stony point Ramblers, a silent auction, and more. $75 for one, table of 8 $600. KQED’s Michael Krasny talks comedy, literature and the state of the world
The host of KQED’s Forum radio show is the keynote speaker at this fundraiser for Literacyworks, a non-profit helping people gain access to education, literacy programs, and more. The talk will take place at the Carole L. Ellis Auditorium on the Petaluma Campus of the Santa Rosa Junior College, 680 Sonoma Mountain Parkway.
