Your Weekend: April 19-April 22

Four full Day of music, comedy, and 4/20 fun|

THURSDAY

BOURBON AND BLUEGRASS

Now that Spring has (sort of) sprung, and Brewster’s Beer Garden is once again hosting outdoor concerts (when the weather allows), the drink-and-food emporium’s popular Bourbon and Bluegrass Thursdays are once again happening. This weekend, the featured band is the Wildcat Mountain Ramblers, playing awesome, upbeat mountain music sure to warm even the coldest and mistiest of cold, misty days. Brewster’s Beer Garden, 229 Water St. 5 p.m. No cover. Brewstersbeergarden.com.

FRIDAY

JAMES WHEAL BAND AND 4/20 CELEBRATION

There’s a lot happening in town this 20th Day of March (known to certain recreational herbalists as 4/20), and lighting up the city-wide party is the big celebration at Lagunitas Brewing Company, home of Waldo’s Special Ale, a super-dank, triple IPA named for the San Rafael High School alums who actually coined the phrase “4/20” back in 1971. Drop by the brewery’s spacious outdoor hangout area for a taste of this year’s crop (of ale), and zone out to the mellow jazz-blues-roots music of the James Wheal Band. Music begins at 4:20 p.m., naturally, and blazes on till 7:30. No cover. Munchies available. 1280 N. McDowell Blvd. Lagunitas.com.

DEAD AGAIN

Later in the evening, head on down to American Alley, where the Big Easy’s own (second annual) 4/20 Party is already sparking some of the biggest buzz in town. Headlining is Dead Again, Sonoma County’s highly popular Grateful Dead cover band. Opening is guitarist Dave Gans, host of the syndicated radio show “The Grateful Dead Hour.” Bring your buds. 128 American alley. 7 p.m. $10 cover. BigEasyPetaluma.com.

TSUNAMI BOMB

Together again, Petaluma’s joy-seeking, melody-spinning, home-grown punk-rockers return to the Phoenix for a frosty mug-hit of upbeat music, joined by the spaced-out commando-rockers The Phenomenauts, Kepi Ghoulie, and The Exit Plan. The concert is a benefit for North Bay Fire Relief. 201 E. Washington St. Show begins at 8 p.m. $15. ThePhoenixTheater.com.

MARCH FOURTH

Here’s another pungent possibility. Thrill-seekers could choose to spend their April Twentieth with MarchFourth. The massive, brassy, breezy ensemble is technically a funk-rock-boogie band, but double as a raucous, colorfully costumed, marching band. Or maybe it’s the other way around. They frequently resemble an escaped troupe of circus performers who’ve somehow crashed a neighborhood disco party, or maybe a happy cult of stilt-walking acrobats with a message of joy and zaniness inspired by the Village People. Whatever MarchFourth is (or are), they will be it to a high degree this 4/20 at the Mystic Theatre (21 N. Petaluma Blvd.), where the group/troupe will be joined by Sonoma County’s equally hard-to-describe Oddjob Ensemble. 8:30 p.m. $15. MysticTheatre.com.

DIRTY RED BARN

Named for an actual barn located near the Bear Valley Visitors Center out at Pt. Reyes National Seashore (where several of the members work), this locally-based band rolls into Red Brick for an evening of blues-folk-rock-bluegrass-Americana. Score a table early. 20 Second St. 7 p.m. No cover. RedBrickRestaurants.com.

WEEKEND AT BERNIE’S

Playing classic and original rock and rhythm-and-blues tunes, Weekend at Bernie’s is a vastly danceable band that know how to lay down a groove and keep it burning. Twin Oaks Roadhouse, 5745 Old Redwood Hwy. First set 8:30 p.m. No cover. TwinOaksRoadhouse.com.

LONG & SHORT

Described as “a new band from the Sonoma Valley, featuring six members and about a million years of experience,” Long & Short play new and old Americana tunes. They’ll be at Aqus Café this Friday for an evening of superlative singing, playing and fun. 198 H St. 7 p.m. No cover. Aqus.com.

SATURDAY

SOULBILLIES

Hailing from the “nether regions” of the North Bay, the Soulbillies describe themselves like this: “We’re a hodgepodge of singers, strummers and drummers who sing songs about drinking, cheating and going to hell.” They’ll be rocking out this 4/20 at Twin Oaks Roadhouse, 5745 Old Redwood Hwy. First set 8:30 p.m. No cover.

SUNDAY

KIEFER SUTHERLAND

Yes, THAT Kiefer Sutherland - appearing live at the Mystic Theatre with a first-rate country rock band, and a slew of grizzle-hearted western-tinged songs, many of which he wrote himself. Believe it. When not playing counter-terrorist agent Jack Bauer on “24” or the Leader of the Free World in the loopy hit television show “Designated Survivor,” Sutherland has been honing his musical chops, playing better-than-average guitar and singing with a voice that blends John Mellencamp’s soulful rasp, Warren Zevon’s melodious growl, and Johnny Cash’s rich, country-gothic intensity. If we’re lucky, Sutherland will play his gorgeously heartbreaking “Shirley Jean,” the aching last words of a man on death row, played to a bouncy, up-tempo tune that is as likely to stick in your head as the chill-inducing lyrics are likely to haunt your dreams. 8:30 p.m. $28-$43. 21 N. Petaluma Blvd. MysticTheatre.com.

COMEDY NIGHT AT GRIFFO - 30-ROCK’S JUDAH FRIEDLANDER

Griffo Distillery hosts a live comedy show featuring Matt Lieb, Chey Bell, and Judah Friedlander. The latter is best-known for playing comedy writer Frank Rositanno on ’30 Rock,’ and for his Netflix stand-up movie “America is the Greatest Country in the United States.” The show’s M.C. is Steve Ausburne, and there will be tasty cocktails to accompany every laugh, snort, and guffaw. Doors open at 7 p.m., show runs from 8-11 p.m., Griffo Distillery, 1320 Scott St. $20. GriffoDistillery.com.
