The top-selling titles at Petaluma’s Copperfield’s Book Store, for the week of April 9-15, 2018.

Charles Frazier’s new novel about the shockingly non-confederate first lady of the Confederacy, “Varina” (see lead BUZZ item on C1 for a quick barroom chat with the author), knocked Robert Reich’s “Common Good” down a notch last week, the rollicking Civil War-era story taking the top spot, helped by Frazier’s appearance at Copperfield’s last Friday. New to the list is Madeleine Albright’s alarming “Fascism: a Warning”?(No. 4), in which the former Secretary of State dissects the totalitarian regimes she once went head-to-head with, and gives her perspective on the current occupant of the White House, whom she sums up as, “The first antidemocratic president in modern U.S. history.” Expect that one to climb by next week, but get ready: Former FBI Director James Comey’s new book is coming out soon.

Meanwhile, this week’s list of Young Adult and Children’s books is crammed with brightly packaged books about robots, unicorns, superheroes, furry woodland monsters - and one very friendly gay rabbit. In the No. 1 is Ellen Potter’s “Big Foot and Little Foot,” while two books about horses with spiky protuberances - Adam Gidwitz’s “Unicorn Rescue Society: Creature of the Pines,” and Amy Krouse Rosenthal’s “Uni the Unicorn and the Dream Come True” - materialize this week in the No. 3 and No. 10 spots, respectively. Also, Jill Twist’s boy-bunnies-in-love picture book “A Day in the Life of Marlon Bundo” has hopped down a few spots, moving from No. 2 last week to No. 9 this week.
