‘Recipe for Community’ Arts Center event

This special event focuses on one notable piece of the Petaluma Arts Center’s currently running exhibit, “Power of Ten: Scaling Up.” The event is a celebration and discussion of “Recipe For Community,” an art piece created by multimedia artist Douglas Gayeton and Aqus Community Foundation. The piece, an enlarged photo of 10 local people who, according to PAC, “define the heart and soul of Petaluma,” including their own individual definitions of the word “Community.” 5-7 p.m. Snacks and refreshments will be served. $10 suggested donation. Petaluma Arts Center, 230 Lakeville St. PetalumaArtsCenter.org.

SUNDAY

‘The Dark Crystal’

Jim Henson’s groundbreaking 1982 fantasy film returns to the big screen in a special release to 500 movie theaters around the country. The imaginative epic - set in a decidedly NON-CG world of puppet creatures and monsters, with such magical critters as Gelflings and Skeksis - was considered a milestone of the art form at the time, though was darker than the work Henson (“The Muppets”) had previously produced. See it again in all of its gorgeously weird glory, Sunday, Feb. 25 at 2 p.m. and 2:01 p.m., and again at 7 p.m. and 7:01 p.m. “The Dark Crystal” will screen again on Wednesday, Feb. 28 at 2 p.m. and 7 p.m., Saturday March 3 at 2 p.m., and Tuesday, March 6 at 2 p.m. and 7 p.m. Boulevard Cinemas, 200 C St. CinemaWest.com.
