David Maloney

Martin Sexton

Iconoclastic rocker Martin Sexton has been singled out for his soulful sound and folk-poet lyrics. His just-released album “Mixtape of the Open Road” has won additional critical praise. Act of Defiance

Founded in 2014, this modern American “extreme metal” thrash band from Los Angeles is something of a super-group, featuring two members of Megadeath (Chris Broderick and Shawn Drover), plus Scar the Martyr’s Henry Derek, and Matt Bachand of Shadows Fall. Trace Repeat

Jami Jameson

Ponyo

With this limited three-day run of Studio Ghibli’s heartwarming 2008 “Ponyo” - about a stranded goldfish magically transformed into an inquisitive, ham-loving girl - theaters across America are celebrating the tenth anniversary of Hayao Miyasaki’s one-of-a-kind animated classic.

As part of the year-long Studio Ghibli Festival, Boulevard Cinemas will host a Sunday screening at 12:55 p.m. in its dubbed-into-English form, with celebrity voices provided by Cate Blanchett, Matt Damon, Lily Tomlin, and Liam Neeson. A subtitled version, in its original Japanese form, will screen Monday, March 26 at 7 p.m., and the dubbed version will screen one last time on Wednesday, March 28, at 7 p.m. 200 C St. Cinemawest.com.
