Three Sonoma County-based nonprofits are collaborating to bring a Sunday Evening Film Series kicking off Sunday, March 8 at Aqus Café Foundry Wharf.

The collaborative, comprised of Daily Acts, Petaluma Grange, and Metta Center for Nonviolence, will be presenting films on a wide range of social and environmental topics and a discussion period will follow each film.

On March 8, the Metta Center for Nonviolence host a screening of the film “Pray the Devil Back to Hell.” Chosen in honor of International Women’s Day, Michael Nagler, the founder of Metta Center and professor emeritus of Classics and Comparative Literature at the University of California, Berkeley, will introduce the film and Lynn Woolsey, former U.S. Representative for California’s 6th congressional district will speak following the screening.

To highlight 2015 as the International Year of Soils, on March 15 Daily Acts will screen “Symphony of the Soil,” a documentary by Deborah Koons Garcia that explores the complexity and mystery of soil. Following the movie, Will Bakx, local soil scientist and owner of Sonoma Compost Company will offer his insights about healthy soils.

On March 22, the Petaluma Grange will show “A Silent Forest - The Growing Threat of Genetically Engineered Trees” narrated by geneticist Dr. David Suzuki and short version of “The Future of Food.” Karen Hudson with GMO Free Sonoma County will then present the GMO struggle and labeling issues within our region followed by Petaluma Grange president Tiffany Renée discussing the history and current agenda of the Grange.

The series continues through May and will begin at 6:30 p.m. Attendees are encouraged to arrive between 5:30 and 6 p.m. to have dinner before the film.

A $10 cash donation is suggested to cover the screening fees for the films, although no one will be turned away for lack of funds.

Aqus Café is located at 189 H Street. For more information, visit aquscafe.com.
