Casa Grande vs. Petaluma girls game moved to Petaluma High

The St. Vincent High School boys soccer team earned advancement in the North Coast Section Class A playoffs Wednesday, defeating Fort Bragg, 1-0.

The win means that the Mustang boys will be playing Saturday along with the St. Vincent girls, the Petaluma boys and girls and the Casa Grande girls in the second round of the playoffs. All, except the Mustang boys, received first-round byes.

Shawn Rainey advanced the Mustangs by putting in a shot off a pass from Michael Pedersen in the second half for the only goal in the match played at Fort Bragg.

The St. Vincent defense, anchored by Tommy Siragusa in goal, and highlighted by the play of sweeper Ryan Guinan and stopper Michael Iniguez, kept the Timberwovles at bay.

St. Vincent (12-6-4) will play Saturday in San Francisco against No. 2 seed San Francisco University (16-3-3). University won its first-round match, 3-0, over Calistoga.

The St. Vincent girls (14-6-1), the No. 2 seed in the Class A playoffs, also play Saturday, taking on Mendocino (14-5-3) at 7 p.m. at Santa Rosa High School. Mendocino shut out Fort Bragg, 1-0, in a first-round game.

Saturday?s big Class 3A match between the Casa Grande and Petaluma girls has been moved to Petaluma High School with kickoff set for 5 p.m. The game was originally to have been played at Sonoma State, but the recent rain made the SSU turf unplayable.

Sonoma County League champion Casa Grande is 15-1-1 for the season and the No. 3 seed in the playoffs. Petaluma, 12-7-1, is the No. 6 seed.

Following the girls game, the Sonoma County League champion Petaluma boys (15-3-2), the No. 2 seed in Class 3A, will face Novato (9-6-2). Novato earned its shot at the Trojans by defeating Redwood on penalty kicks (4-2). Kickoff for the boys game is 7 p.m.
