Wine Country Rowing Classic comes to Petaluma River on Sunday

More than 600 participants are expected in Sunday's 6th annual Wine Country Rowing Classic on the Petaluma River.

Rowers will launch their small, medium and large boats at the Petaluma Marina, 745 Baywood Dr. Races start between 8:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.

Co-hosts the North Bay Rowing Club and Sonoma State University Crew will be joined on the water by Stanford and other university crew teams.

"Masters" rowers, those over 21 who aren't affiliated with a college, will race in singles, doubles, pairs, quads and fours and eights.

The event is free for spectators, who can grab the best views from the viewing platform of Shollenberger Park.

Vendors will be set up in the parking lot of the marina, including Bro's BBQ making paella and local companies JL Racing and Athleta. Gift baskets with local food and wine goodies will be auctioned off.

The North Bay Rowing Club Juniors, who are supported by Straus Family Creamery and Clif Bars, will be fundraising for a new boat.
