With filing deadlines passed, Petaluma races have taken shape for the Nov. 4 election.

Current councilmember Mike Harris will be the only candidate challenging David Glass for the mayor’s seat this fall, and five candidates are vying for three open city council seats.

The council race will include incumbents Chris Albertson and Teresa Barrett, and newcomers Ken Quinto and Dave King. Former city council member Janice Cader-Thompson threw in her hat last Wednesday.

In many local races, the number of candidates who applied matched the number of seats available, negating the need for an election.

Sonoma County Board of Education (Area 2):

Daniel Drummond will challenge Peter Kostas for incumbent Raymond Peterson’s seat.

Sonoma County Junior College District (Petaluma Area):

Incumbent Kathleen Doyle, of Petaluma, will run against challenger educator Maggie Fishman, of Penngrove, for the board seat that was recently vacated by Petaluman Onita Pellegrini.

Petaluma Joint Union High School District:

Incumbents Michael Baddeley, Phoebe Ellis and Sheri Chlebowski will run against newcomers Gonzalo Romo and Steven Cozza for three open seats.

Waugh School District:

Incumbents Christie Shern, Matthew Thomas and Christine Pieper will run against challengers Scott Rostoni and John Paun for three available seats.
