A Petaluma woman remains in jail Friday morning after being stopped on suspicion of drunken driving and then spitting on an officer, police said.

Adriana Lawson, 45, is being held on $26,000 bail on four misdemeanor charges related to the incident, Sgt. Ron Klein said. She is set to appear in court next week.

She is on probation from a previous alcohol-related charge, police said.

About 4:40 a.m. Friday a witness called police reporting Lawson driving erratically, weaving and stopping at green traffic signals, Klein said. The witness said Lawson’s vehicle almost struck a bicyclist near Payran and East Washington streets.

Officers stopped Lawson on Fairgrounds Drive and noticed Lawson showing “extreme symptoms of being intoxicated,” Klein said. She was argumentative and verbally abusive with the officers, refusing to perform field sobriety tests, he said.

As she was arrested, she spit on an officer, Klein said.

She was booked into the Sonoma County Jail on suspicion of drunken driving, being drunk in public, violating probation and battery on a peace officer.
