Petaluma councilman Chris Albertson running for 2nd term

Petaluma City Councilman Chris Albertson confirmed this week that he will seek a second term.

Albertson, 65, was Petaluma's fire chief for six years before retiring in 2007. He was elected to his current term in 2010, coming in as one of the more development-friendly members on the council.

In his official announcement seeking re-election, he cited his leadership in the community and efforts to create jobs, strengthen the city's economy, expand Petaluma's business base, overhaul public pensions and improve public safety services.

"When I took office, Petaluma was struggling with economic issues related to the national recession," Albertson said. "Today we are in a stronger financial position, approving the construction of new shopping centers that have created jobs, expanded our business base and increased sales tax revenues to the city."

If re-elected, he said he wants to continue supporting business retention and expansion, creating affordable housing options, investing in parks and roads and ensuring the city's police and fire departments are well-equipped.

Three council seats and the mayor's job are on the ballot in November.

Former Councilwoman Pam Torliatt is also seeking a council seat, and Mayor David Glass and Councilman Mike Harris are running for mayor. Councilwoman Teresa Barrett's current term is expiring after this year, but she hasn't filed reelection papers.
