Police arrest 19 during Water Street crackdown

Utilizing plainclothes and uniformed officers, Petaluma police made 19 arrests and issued eight citations during a targeted enforcement program in the Water Street area from Dec. 10 through Saturday, said Sgt. Jim Stephenson.

On Dec. 13, officers observed Benjamin Meyer, 20, and William Atkinson, 41, making a narcotics deal. Atkinson was arrested for transporting marijuana and Meyer was nabbed for possessing marijuana for sale and transporting marijuana.

That same day, Michael Chavez, 24, and a juvenile female were issued citations for possessing marijuana.

On Dec. 14, a plainclothes officer saw Jason May, 31, and Sheldon Berkey, 20, making a narcotics transaction. May was nabbed for transporting marijuana and Berkey was arrested for possessing marijuana for sale, transporting marijuana and violation of probation.

Also on Dec. 14, officers on Water Street observed Ryan Greenfield-Hendrix, 20, and Angelo Lancaster, 19, making a narcotics deal. Greenfield-Hendrix was arrested for possessing a controlled substance for sale and transporting a controlled substance, and Lancaster was nabbed for possessing a controlled substance.

The following day, officers on Water Street arrested Sean Nelson, 19, for possessing a switchblade knife and an outstanding warrant, and issued a citation to Matthew Lusher, 31, and Maurice Green, 28, for possessing an open container of alcohol on a public street. Lusher also was arrested for violating his probation.

That same day, a juvenile female was arrested for possessing marijuana and cigarettes. Also, two juveniles who had been fighting were arrested: a male for fighting in public and a female for possessing graffiti that she admitted to have used to vandalize walls on other occasions.

Also on Dec. 15, Ryan Crowder, 20, and James Jensen, 25, were issued a citation for having an open container of alcohol in public. Crowder had an ID card that did not belong to him, and he admitted that he had used it to get into bars. He was issued a citation for this violation.

Teodulfo Hernandez Garcia, 41, was arrested on Thursday for stealing a bicycle on Water Street.

On Friday, an officer on Water Street observed Chad Empey, 45, scratching storefront windows in the Golden Eagle Shopping Center on East Washington Street. Empey was arrested for felony vandalism, and was booked at Sonoma County Jail.

The following day, an officer on Water Street cited Nathan Carroll, 21, for having an open container of alcohol in public. Also, an officer found that David Fleck, 28, possessed an alcoholic beverage, a violation of his probation terms.

Also on Friday, two male juveniles attempted to purchase marijuana from plainclothes officers. The juveniles, who also possessed cigarettes, were arrested for attempting to possess marijuana and possessing tobacco products. And Douglas Van Buren, 18, was arrested by officers for attempting to purchase marijuana.

On Saturday, officers on Water Street saw James Morris, 33, acting suspicious. They contacted him, and he then attempted to hide marijuana in a flower pot. Morris was arrested for possessing marijuana and for two outstanding warrants for his arrest.

Also on Saturday, officers observed Sean Oconner, 24, loitering on a boat dock and acting suspicious. They found that he was drinking alcohol and on active probation that prohibited from drinking alcohol.

He was arrested for violation his probation and issued a citation for having an open container of alcohol in public.
