Still no ID in McNear Peninsula death

The identity and cause of death of a woman found on McNear Peninsula Aug. 16 remains a mystery and likely won't be revealed for another month, according to the Sonoma County Coroner's office.

A boater first saw the body while passing by the peninsula and reported it to police. Investigating officers found a badly decomposed body that had likely been there for weeks, as well as a form of identification near the body.

Officials were seeking to confirm that the identification belonged to the woman through dental records, but the coroner's office said that dental records could not be located. They are now trying to confirm the woman's identity through DNA, a process that could take three to four more weeks.

Police declined to say anything about the identity, ethnicity or age of the woman, but they said in an earlier interview that they did not believe her death involved foul play.
