Firefighters tackle grass fire

A grass fire scorched about an acre of ground near Cedar Grove Park and the railroad tracks Wednesday afternoon.

As of 5 p.m., firefighters were putting out the last of the flames between Rocca Drive and Cedar Grove Park. They estimated that about a quarter acre had burned.

Officials said Thursday morning that while the fire came close to some structures, there was no major damage - only charring to the sideing on two abandoned buildings.

During firefighting efforts, which included two hose lines being stretched across the tracks, the railroad was was shut down. There were no injuries and the cause is under investigation, firefighters said.
