A 97-year-old legally blind Petaluma woman has died from injuries suffered after she was hit by a vehicle while walking in an eastside crosswalk, reported Petaluma police Monday.
Mary Friman died Friday. She'd been at Santa Rosa Memorial Hospital since the March 17 collision.
Just before 9 a.m. Friman was crossing East Washington Street at Ely Boulevard South, aided by her white and red cane.
Petaluma resident Jan Recob, 62, told officers she hadn't seen the woman due to the sun being in her eyes.
Recob wasn't injured but was very distraught, officers reported.
The crash remained under investigation, said Petaluma Lt. Tim Lyons.
The case will be given to the Sonoma County District Attorney's Office for a determination if the driver should be prosecuted for the woman's death.
