Suspected DUI crash knocks out power to east Petaluma

A Petaluma man was arrested for suspected drunken driving early Friday morning after he plowed a Ford F-150 truck into a utility pole and cut power to a large swath of customers on the city's east side, some of whom were still without power as the business day began, authorities said.

Antone Elias Brazil, 23, was uninjured in the 1:45 a.m. crash and was booked into the Sonoma County Jail, where he was being held on $50,000 bail, jail personnel said.

The crash on Adobe Road near Manor Lane severed the power pole, dropping power lines onto the ground and igniting a small grass fire across from the Petaluma Adobe, the CHP and Rancho Adobe Fire personnel said.

The overall incident closed Adobe Road, between Casa Grande Road and East Washington Street, for at least 90 minutes and left thousands without power in the immediate aftermath, the CHP said.

It was unclear how many customers were still without electricity as the day began. PG&E representatives were not available.

Brazil was being held for suspected drunken driving and for violation or probation, jail personnel said.
