Petaluma man gets 120 days in jail for DUI, hit-and-run

A 50-year-old Petaluma man will serve 120 days in jail for hitting a pedestrian while he was driving under the influence on St. Patrick's Day.

Timothy Kemp pleaded no contest Friday to misdemeanor leaving the scene of an accident and drunken-driving with injury in the March 17 crash, said his lawyer, Richard Scott.

He had previously been charged with two felonies. Under the agreement, he will be allowed to serve his jail sentence on weekends, Scott said.

The crash happened at the intersection of Petaluma Boulevard North and Washington Street, adding to a surge of arrests over the St. Patrick's Day weekend. Matthew Bushner, 22 also of Petaluma was crossing the street when he was hit.

Police believed Bushner also may have been intoxicated. He suffered moderate injuries and was taken to a hospital.

Kemp, who had been convicted of drunken driving last spring, kept driving after the crash but was arrested at Lakeville and D streets with the help of witnesses.

Officers searched his van and found two bottle of vodka and a 12-pack of beer with one can open inside a coffee mug, police said.
