Pie-lovers Angelo Sacerdote and Lina Hoshino are putting the finishing touches on their soon-to-be opened Petaluma Pie Company in the space formerly occupied by Bella Luma Caffe in Helen Putnam Plaza.
The Petaluma Pie Company will specialize in serving sweet and savory pies, along with grilled cheese, soup, beer and other beverages.
Sacerdote worked as a cook at a seafood restaurant, and then as a produce buyer at the High Falls Food Coop in Upstate New York. He got the idea to produce the documentary "Fed Up! Genetic Engineering, Industrial Agriculture, and Sustainable Alternatives," after learning about the genetically engineered crops that were being incorporated into our food supply.
This project took him to California, where for the past decade, he worked at a media non-profit organization called Bay Area Video Coalition, while honing his skills as a pie baker and a gardener. He had his documentary closed-captioned in exchange for apple pies.
Hoshino is a filmmaker and graphic designer who spent her teen years working in the family restaurant in New Jersey. Her most recent film "Leap of Faith: How Enmanji Temple was Saved," appeared on our local public television station KRCB.
The Petaluma Pie Company, located at 125 Petaluma Blvd. North, is scheduled to open in December.
Though excited about the new business, the owners reported on their blog that someone stole the Petaluma Pie Company sign on Halloween night. Anyone with information on it should call 347-9743 or e-mail pie@petalumapie.com.
