Petaluma to hold budget workshop Monday

Petaluma's City Council will hold a budget workshop Monday to discuss cutting $1.6 million from next year's general fund budget.

The current spending level is $32 million.

The meeting will begin at 3:30 p.m. in council chambers. It will be televised live and available for viewing later from the city's website.

City Manager John Brown last month asked each of the city department heads to come up with suggestions for how to cut 5 percent from their budgets. Those ideas will be considered at the workshop.

The city is in ongoing negotiations with its unions in an effort to win concessions to help balance the budget.
