Construction to begin on River Trail

A link in the pedestrian and bicycle path known as the river trail will soon be built.

The City Council on Monday approved a $953,657 contract with Ghilotti Construction Company, to be funded mostly through Measure M, a county-wide sales tax measure for transportation-related improvements.

The all-weather paved trail along the Petaluma River will be part of the larger Petaluma River Trail. It will start near the sewer pump station at the end of North Water Street, cross the Petaluma River and continue along the east side of the river to Lakeville Street, where it will almost connect with what is known as the Lynch Creek Trail.

A couple missing pieces will keep the trail from being completed. The Army Corps of Engineers must complete a small portion of the Payran flood Control Project and the city hasn't been able to obtain an easement from two property owners on Water Street North.
