Police K9s won at Sheriff's trial in Windsor

At the Sonoma County Sheriff's K9 Trial on June 16 in Windsor, Petaluma police department canines Rico and Kilo -who have both been featured in recent news stories - won twelve awards between them. Rico won an award in each of the eight events he participated in.

Rico took first place for Area Search, second place for Overall Performance, third place for Building Narcotics Detection, fourth place in the Agility, Obedience and Protection categories and fifth place in the Overall Narcotics Detection and Article Search categories.

Kilo went home with first place in Obedience and third place in the Overall Performance, Area Search and Decoy's Top Choice categories.

Petaluma's Sgt. Ed Crosby said that the police department will not be holding its own K9 trials this year due to budget constraints. "We will be spending this year retooling the k9 Trial and raising funds to re-introduce the event in 2013," he said.

The Petaluma Police Department will be holding a bowling tournament Friday, August 24, called "The Dog Bowl," to help raise funds for next year's trials. For more information, call Sgt. Ed Crosby at 778-4372.
