Workshop to take on domestic violence in light of recent tragedy

The Fabulous Women is teaming up with other community organizations to take on domestic violence in an August event dedicated to Kim Baucom Conover, the well-loved school teacher and mother who was killed by her estranged husband earlier this year.

The event, called Let's Face It, will take place Aug. 12 and feature presentations by District Attorney Jill Ravitch and representatives of the YWCA of Sonoma County.

"With the recent loss of a Petaluma teacher and mother, Kim Baucom Conover, we find ourselves reflective," read a recent announcement of the event. " We care about her story and how often the cycle of abuse touches women from all walks of life"

In an email about the event, the Fabulous Women's Krista Gawronski went on to write, "There are life lessons about domestic violence that can empower women of all ages."

To that end, a yet-to-be-named guest speaker will also talk about her personal experience with domestic violence.

Anyone wishing to attend is asked to RSVP by Aug. 5 to thefabulouswomen@gmail.com and to bring a drink or appetizer to share.

The group is also asking for a donation for the trust fund set up for Baucom Conover's four children.

The event will take place from 2 to 5 p.m. at the Lucchesi Center. The group is encouaging young women to attend, but recommending that children under age 13 do not come.
