Penngrove’s Jacob Darby of Bright Works Detailing is a member of the celebrated Air Force One detailing team who is headed to Seattle, Wash., this month to do detail work on the Concorde “Alpha Golf” jet, which is one of the world’s first supersonic airliners.

In retirement since 2003, the Alpha Golf’s final flight broke a speed record of three hours, 55 minutes and 12 seconds flying from New York to its home at the Museum of Flight in Seattle.

Darby is one of a prestigious 35-member veteran detailing team who has made a biennial trip to Seattle before to restore the shine on the original Air Force One presidential jet. “AFO is on this year’s schedule as well,” said Darby. “But the 204-foot luxury Concorde jetliner offers a significant challenge this year with it substantial length, and the iconic shape of its slender delta wings and fuselage.”

The Concorde hasn’t had a cleaning or wax in 10 years.
