A Petaluma youth baseball coach who helped lead his team to the Little League World Series two years ago will be evaluated by a psychologist after his arrest earlier this month on domestic violence-related charges, a judge ruled Friday.

Trevor Robert Tomei, 47, is charged with felony stalking of his estranged wife and three misdemeanors in connection with dozens of text-messages he's alleged to have sent her over the past two months in violation of a restraining order.

The Petaluma resident is alleged to have repeatedly contacted her despite being arrested twice before his most recent arrest Oct. 7. He remains in custody with a $500,000 bail.

Tomei appeared in court Friday, dressed in a blue Sonoma County jail uniform.

His lawyer, Evan Zelig, asked to have Tomei evaluated for possible drug and alcohol treatment. He also asked for a preliminary screening from the court psychologist to see if Tomei suffers from mental health issues.

Judge Gary Medvigy granted the requests and ordered Tomei to return to court next Friday.

Tomei was one of three coaches to lead the Petaluma Nationals, a team of 11- and 12-year-olds, in the 2012 Little League World Series in South Williamsport, Pa. The team finished in third place.
