Sand and sandbags available for storm preparation

Time to prepare for this week’s severe storm set to roll in Wednesday night.|

In preparation for this week’s severe storm conditions and potential flooding, the city is making sand and sandbags available to the citizens of Petaluma.

These supplies are located at two unmanned stations. One is located at the end of Hopper Street near Shamrock Concrete’s yard. The other station is at the Prince Park entry in the parking lot to the right.

A sign has been set up at the Prince Park location. Bags are located at both sites in a metal box next to the sand piles at each location. Shovels are provided so you may bag your own sand.

Bags will not be pre-filled and there will no personnel to do this task.

The storm is expected to hit Wednesday evening and continue through Thursday and dump up to 5 inches of rain on the lower parts of Sonoma County. High tide in the Petaluma River at the upper drawbridge (D Street) in Petaluma is at 5:38 a.m. on Thursday.
