Petaluma Police arrested two men for suspicion of committing a residential burglary on Monday, Feb. 23.

Around 11:55 a.m., a resident of McGregor Avenue woke up and saw a Hispanic male in the doorway of his bedroom. The resident did not know the male intruder and yelled at him to get out of his house. Fearing for his safety, the resident also pointed a handgun at the male intruder, who then ran from the house and got into a white Buick Sedan, which was parked in front of the residence.

According to police, a neighbor of the victim saw the intruder and another Hispanic male get into the sedan and drive away on McGregor Avenue. The neighbor was able to get all of the Buick’s license plate except for the first digit.

A Petaluma Motor Officer located the vehicle several minutes later turning westbound onto Caulfield Lane from St. Francis Drive - about a half mile away from where the burglary occurred. The Buick was stopped in the Gateway Shopping Center and the two males in the vehicle were questioned.

Police arrested Kevin Angulo, 19, of Petaluma; and Victor Figueroa, 19, of Rohnert Park. Angulo is on probation from a previous theft related case.

One of the neighboring houses had video surveillance cameras in their front yard. Video surveillance from the neighbor’s residence was viewed by police and showed the Buick parked in front of the victim’s house and also showed what was believed to be the driver and passenger running from the victim’s house and getting into the Buick and driving away.

Police reported that a search was conducted of the inside of the Buick and located inside the car was a black Sentry lock box, an envelope with identifying marks on it and an undisclosed amount of cash and an HP laptop computer. None of these items were connected with the original burglary on McGregor Avenue. It could not be determined if any items had actually been taken from that residence.

At approx. 2:35 p.m., Petaluma Police received a call from a resident of St. Francis Drive who discovered their home had been burglarized. St. Francis Drive is just a short distance from McGregor Avenue.

Officers investigated and learned the items taken were a Sentry lock box, an envelope with cash and an HP laptop computer. The victims of the burglary on St. Francis Drive were brought to the police station and they positively identified the property police had.

The victims provided a Sentry key which opened the lock box Angulo and Figueroa had in their possession. Inside the lockbox were passports and other identifiable type items, which belonged to the residents of the later reported burglary.

Angulo was booked into Sonoma County Jail on charges of conspiracy, being an accessory to a crime and a probation violation. His bail was set at $21,000.

Figueroa was booked into Sonoma County Jail on burglary and conspiracy charges. His bail was set at $40,000.
