The History Connection of Petaluma and the Petaluma Vietnam Veterans Chapter 563 have teamed up to replace all the torn and tattered American flags in the city free of cost.

Most notably, the four flags at the bridge crossing East Washington Street near Petaluma Boulevard, which have been absent for many years, are being replaced.

Protocol requires that flags not being taken down at night need to have partial lighting, so the groups will be providing solar lighting units for all poles as needed.

“We are proud to replace Petaluma’s flags on this historic date, which happens to be the 50th anniversary of the beginning of the Vietnam War,” said Joe Noriel of History Connection. “These flags are dedicated to the 15 Petaluma men who lost their lives in Vietnam.”

A flag raising ceremony will be held at 1 p.m. March 8 at the East Washington Street bridge location near Petaluma Boulevard. For more information, visit historyconnection.net.
