Police respond to bomb scare

Petaluma Police officers, responding to a bomb threat on Keller Street on Monday, found no suspicious items. Police dispatchers received a call on Monday afternoon from a man who said he had placed eight pipe bombs at the Keller Street location of TWiT, a company that produces technology podcasts.

According to the police, the caller said that people inside the building were “all going to die.” A phone message left with TWiT was not returned.

“The caller was asked why he was upset with TWiT, and the caller stated he was not just upset with them but with his whole life,” the police said in a statement. “The caller claimed he was going to ‘take them all out’ and the bombs he had placed in the building would go off in three hours.”

The caller also made threats to go to the business and shoot all of the occupants of the building before the bombs went off, according to the police, who were not able to trace the call.

TWiT employees were not ordered to evacuate the building, although most employees left until the business could be cleared by police. Officers, with the help of two Coast Guard dogs trained in explosive material detection, conducted a visual inspection of the entire business, but did not locate anything suspicious.

The business was declared safe at 8 p.m.

The incident is under investigation.
